Natural health products company enters into R & D agreement with Canadian NRC
Biotanika and the National Research Council Canada (NRC)  have signed a collaborative research agreement bridging expertise from a private company and a federal R&D organization, and involving teams drawn from Quebec and Prince Edward Island. Recognized globally for research and innovation, the National Research Council of Canada (NRC) works with partners from industry, government and universities to support innovation in communities across the country, and give Canadian companies a competitive edge in today's marketplace.

Biotanika specializes in the development and distribution of naturally-based products. These products, with proven efficacy, provide an alternative to prescription drugs to people suffering from pathologies that affect their quality of life. Biotanika Health is a commercial unit addressing the Human Health market and Biotanika Animal is a commercial unit addressing the companion animal market.

Under the terms of the agreement, experts at the Canadian NRC Institute for Nutrisciences and Health will conduct research to identify novel synergistic activities in multi-herb formulations. This work will help the company develop products for use in the management of pain and inflammation.

"We are proud to collaborate with the NRC Institute for Nutrisciences and Health in bringing an innovative and highly credible approach to the nutraceutical market," says Benoit Côte, President and CEO of Biotanika. "Our promise is to provide safe and efficient alternative products to prescription drugs and with such a world-renowned collaborator as NRC we feel confident in achieving our goals."

Dr. Pierre Coulombe, NRC President adds, "Helping translate health research into practical applications is an important way that NRC assists Canadian companies like Biotanika. NRC's collaboration with Biotanika will contribute to the scientific community's understanding of the potential benefits of natural bioactive ingredients."

The research is expected to produce intellectual property for safe natural health products based on multiple herbs.
