Canadian Thanksgiving at Life West
Nov. 16, 2008, Hayward, CA - On Friday, October 10, Life Chiropractic College West continued a long college tradition by holding its annual dinner celebrating Canadian Thanksgiving Day. The president of the college, Dr. Gerard Clum, along with his family and college faculty, has hosted this event for the past 27 years, inviting all of Life West’s Canadian students and their guests to partake in the festivities.

This year 52 students and friends enjoyed a sumptuous dinner at Scott’s Seafood in Oakland.

When the event was first held in 1981, Dr. Clum provided Thanksgiving dinner at his home with his family to three Canadian Life West students. Dr. Clum first thought of the idea when reminiscing about his days growing up in Buffalo, New York. He had spent a great deal of time visiting friends and family in Canada. In fact, Dr. Clum received his first spinal adjustment from a Canadian chiropractor who became an integral part of Dr. Clum’s dramatic recovery from a serious optic disorder. The chiropractic treatments completely changed his life. As a result, he decided to become a chiropractor and is a fervent advocate for the chiropractic profession. In remembrance and thanks of that pivotal time, he holds this special annual event.

Angela Lindberg, a current student from Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, and current president Life West’s chapter of the World Congress of Chiropractic Students, attended the dinner at Scott’s. She said,”It is one of the events that I look forward to most during the year.  The fact that Dr. Clum and his family reach out with their hearts to make us feel at home is a treasure to my husband and me. Life West fosters and celebrates their chiropractic family who have come so far to be here.”

Life West, established in 1976, is an accredited non-profit institution of higher learning. Currently over 400 students from across the United States and abroad are enrolled, and over 3,700 graduates of Life West are now providing chiropractic care worldwide. The college’s Public Health Center, staffed by approximately 150 senior interns who are guided by licensed doctors of chiropractic, provides affordable health care to more than 1,500 patients per week in the city of Hayward, California. The college and Health Center maintain a Web site at www.lifewest.edu.
