Industry News - Contemporary Acupuncture at McMaster U
April 22, Hamilton, ON - The McMaster University Contemporary Acupuncture for Health Professionals program  2009 and 2010 ten course schedules are now available, and include a course titled Integrated Diagnosis of Cervico-Cranio-Mandibular Disorders. The McMaster University Contemporary Acupuncture for Health Professionals program is a practical training program that consists of five, three-day weekend units (126 contact hours) plus a concurrent, self-directed home study portion (174 hours).  The program has offered spring and fall sessions every year since 1998.

The program is skill-based and clinically oriented, with over 80 hrs devoted to practical workshops such as surface anatomy palpation, insertion needling skills, anatomy laboratory, condition specific blueprint treatment design, and treatment of real patients. This practical, contemporary, hands-on approach helps participants consistently achieve the program's objectives.

The McMaster University Contemporary Acupuncture for Health Professionals program is recognized in different dimensions by the American Academy of Medical Acupuncture, the American Board of Medical Acupuncture, and many professional colleges, associations, and licensing boards throughout Canada and the USA.  Over 500 health professionals have graduated from the program to date.

College of Chiropractors of Ontario members who successfully complete the McMaster Contemporary Acupuncture Program would comply with the educational component of the standard.

The schedule for 2009 fall courses is as follows:

  • Unit 1  Sept 11-12-13;
  • Unit 2  Oct 2-3-4;
  • Unit 3  Oct 23-24-25;
  • Unit 4  Nov 13-14-15;
  • Unit 5  Dec 4-5-6
Scheduling for spring 2010 courses is as follows:
  • Unit 1  Feb 19-20-21;
  • Unit 2  Mar 19-20-21;
  • Unit 3  Apr 9-10-11;
  • Unit 4  Apr 30-May 1-2;
  • Unit 5  May 28-29-30
From June 12-14, 2009, the McMaster University Contemporary Acupuncture for Health Professionals program will also offer a course titled Integrated Diagnosis of Cervico-Cranio-Mandibular Disorders.

The objectives of this course will be to:
  • learn how to use the necessary elements in order to perform a detailed and secure diagnosis of CCMD, considering mainly three of the four systems that configure these kinds of clinical problems: MM, TMJ & DO,
  • learn how to establish general diagnosis relationships between these three Fundamental Systems and the CS,
  • learn how to make diagnosis of these three fundamental systems through several live cases and hands-on workshops,
  • establish the diagnostic basis in order to implement, in a second course, a treatment protocol based in specific therapeutic objectives.
