New Cochrane collaboration initiatives in Nova Scotia

July 12, Halifax, NS - The Nova Scotia Health Research Foundation (www.nshrf.ca) has funded the development of Cochrane Collaboration initiatives and networks in Nova Scotia.

The funding will support three elements that, together, will help grow the capacity to carry out  Cochrane reviews while enhancing their utilization:

  • the development of the Cochrane Prognosis Methodology Resource Group;
  • the maintenance and increased activity of the Dalhousie University Cochrane Network Site; and
  • the establishment of a Nova Scotia–based Regional Cochrane Training Centre.

The Cochrane Collaboration is an international not-for-profit and independent organization dedicated to making up-to-date, accurate information about the effects of health care readily available worldwide. It produces and disseminates systematic reviews of health care

interventions and promotes the search for evidence in the form of clinical trials and other studies of interventions. The major product of the Collaboration is the Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews which is published quarterly as part of The Cochrane Library.

These new Nova Scotia activities in conjunction with the Cochrane Collaboration will benefit the province’s research community, while building capacity to conduct, interpret and apply high quality research syntheses.
