Milestone in chiropractic research
Dec. 8, Montreal PQ – The Fonds de la recherche en santé du Québec (FRSQ), the Ordre des chiropraticiens du Québec and the Fondation de recherche chiropratique du Québec are pleased to announce a partnership agreement to foster the development of chiropractic research. Under this agreement, training awards for postgraduate chiropractors and career awards for young researchers will be jointly funded.

"I‘d like to congratulate the Ordre des chiropraticiens du Québec on its vision acknowledging the importance of promoting clinical research to its members and its collaboration with the Fondation de recherche chiropratique du Québec to make this possible. This agreement with a professional corporation is a first! It’s my sincere hope that other professional corporations in the field of health will follow suit," said FRSQ President and Chief Executive Officer Yves Joanette.

As a chiropractor and Ordre des chiropraticiens du Québec president, Dr André-Marie Gonthier explained, "The fact that we now have a partnership agreement with the FRSQ is proof of the progress made by chiropractic as a profession. By developing research and forming a critical mass of researchers, a partnership of this kind will no doubt position chiropractics throughout our health system."

Chiropractor Dr Richard Dussault, President of the Fondation de recherche chiropratique du Québec, could not agree more. "Despite the countless scientific studies worldwide that demonstrate the effectiveness of chiropractic, research must remain front and centre. And the partnership with the FRSQ will make it possible to step up and refine research."

The agreement provides for tripartite funding for doctoral, postdoctoral and junior researcher awards. Applicants must have applied for funding as part of the FRSQ’s regular training and career award competitions and obtained the passing grade for scientific merit set by the FRSQ’s peer committee.
