June
08, Barrie, Ont. – Effective June 19, 2010, Healthscore Certified
chiropractic offices will have laboratory privileges under the combined
guidance of Healthscore Inc. and the medical review officers at
DriverCheck
Inc.
“This is
a historic event for chiropractic in Canada!” according to Dr. Steve Rallis, chief clinical officer for Healthscore inc. “Healthscore certified chiropractic offices will now have access to diagnostic labs that
will help position these DCs on the front line of prevention and wellness in Canada. Chiropractic can no longer sit on the side-lines in the midst of the worst health care epidemic in human history; our doctors must face the responsibility of disease prevention and begin measuring and impacting health now! Incorporating laboratory analysis is critical for both the early detection and prevention of most chronic diseases including heart disease, stroke and diabetes.”
The 12 month process culminating in this historic event included the writing of National Laboratory review guidelines and protocols by Dr. Rallis and DriverCheck’s medical review officers. The first group of lab testing that will
be eligible in this program include: complete cholesterol panels, glucose and high sensitivity c-reactive protein. Healthscore’s evidence-based risk analysis software will then score these laboratory tests on a continuum from high risk to optimal, allowing all relevant stakeholders including primary care physicians, the wellness provider and the patient to understand their relevant risk and level of health.
“The
principal role of the Healthscore licensed chiropractor will be to facilitate
the therapeutic lifestyle arm of healthcare delivery,” says Dr. Rallis.
“Healthscore is the bridge that connects chiropractic to mainstream healthcare
delivery with a distinct focus on saving lives..ahead of time. Therapeutic
lifestyle and integrative medicine is the future of healthcare, we want to ensure that chiropractors are included as
central players in this development beyond just the musculoskeletal model”
