Chiropractic researchers receive awards

Aug.6, 2010 – The Ontario Chiropractic Association (OCA) is proud to announce two recent award recipients, Drs. Paul Bishop and Mark Erwin, who have been recognized for excellence in research.

Dr. Paul Bishop

Dr. Paul Bishop has received the Outstanding Paper Award for Medical and Interventional Science granted by The Spine Journal in conjunction with the North American Spine Society (NASS).  The paper, soon to be published in The Spine Journal, is titled “The Chiropractic Hospital-Based Interventions Research Outcomes (CHIRO) Study: A Randomized Controlled trial on the effectiveness of clinical practice guidelines in the medical and chiropractic management of patients with acute mechanical lower back pain.”

Dr. Mark Erwin

Dr. Mark Erwin, assistant professor in the department of surgery in the Faculty of Medicine, and CCRF scientist in Disc Biology at the University of Toronto, was also honoured for excellence in research.  Dr. Erwin received the Hansjorg-Wyss Foundation Award.  The award will go toward funding his current research project titled “A cellular and molecular strategy to unlock the regenerative reservoir of the notocordal cell: a novel approach to treat intervertebral disc degeneration.”  Following a thorough peer review process, the award was presented in Montreal at the World Forum of Spine Research symposium where Dr. Erwin was also a presenter.

Dr. Erwin is pleased to count the prestigious Hansjorg-Wyss Foundation Award among the supporters of his research in disc biology.

Congratulations to both DCs on being recognized for their formidable work.
