Steve Zoltai A Chiropractic History Assignment

Two vintage instruments...what are they for?

Written by Steve Zoltai
Two vintage instruments….Steve Zoltai, CMCC, asks what they were for.
25Have you ever found an interesting piece of vintage equipment in the loft of your father’s garage and wondered what it was, and what it once did?

Steven Zoltai, from the Health Sciences Library at the Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College in Toronto, found these two pieces of equipment – both were once used by chiropractors and both, he knows, are cold-ray ultraviolet devices.
The “Stitt Model ‘S’ Cold Ultra-violet”, (Photo 1), was made by Dallone Laboratories in Los Angeles and was donated to the CMCC Library by Dr. David Szaraz.

The other device, showing the hand-held attachment, (Photo 2), was made by “Therapy Products Co. Of America” and bears the inscription, “Successors to Electro Ultraviolet Corporation”.  It was donated to CMCC by Dr. Herbert K. Lee.

“Although we know that both machines are self-described as cold-ray ultraviolet devices, and presumably generated ultraviolet light, we do not know how they were actually used or when they were made,” says Zoltai.

He adds, “We would be grateful if readers could help us by providing any information they might have about these devices or how they were used.”

If you can offer Steve any information about either, or both, of these pieces of equipment, please contact him at the CMCC library at This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it or contact Canadian Chiropractor magazine.  Your answer will be printed in our October issue.
Both devices are on display at the CMCC Health Sciences Library museum.
