Isolating pain-causing mechanism to obtain precise diagnosis and treatment


How many times have we heard the diagnosis, “non-specific back pain” or “mechanical back pain”? Some patients have been scarred with the highly iatrogenic radiological diagnosis of “degenerative disc disease.” Often, patients do not understand the cause of their pain, nor do they have a solid direction of what to do. Too often, they feel helpless and are forced to just live with the pain.

Stuart McGill, professor of spine biomechanics at the University of Waterloo, will present a free one-hour webinar on precisely diagnosing the causes of back pain for appropriate treatment and rehabilitation. McGill will present an evidence-based process of interpreting history followed by pain provocation to isolate the mechanism that causes pain and robs performance. Once understood, eliminating the pain-causing mechanism is the first stage prior to any exercise prescription. Winding down pain sensitivity is paramount. Then, the “knowledge of mechanism” guides the progressive program to build the foundation for a pain-free body.

This lecture will equip chiropractic doctors with scientific knowledge to precisely diagnose the cause of back pain, deliver treatment to stop the cause of pain and prescribe progressive exercise for rehabilitation and prevention.
