Dec. 20, Buffalo, N.Y. – The American Chiropractic Board of Radiology (ACBR) has awarded chiropractor, Dr. Doug Lawson of Calgary, Alta., an honourary Diplomate of the American Chiropractic Board of Radiology.

Dec. 20, Buffalo, N.Y. – The American Chiropractic Board of Radiology (ACBR) has awarded chiropractor, Dr. Doug Lawson of Calgary, Alberta an honorary Diplomate of the American Chiropractic Board of Radiology.

Lawson joins Drs. Felix Bauer, Othel Pirtle and Ray Sherman as the only four chiropractors to be so honored.

The award was presented by John Taylor, DC, DACBR on behalf of the ACBR at a Calgary seminar on December 9, 2010. Dr. Lawson was presented a plaque that states:

The American Chiropractic Board of Radiology hereby certifies that Douglas M. Lawson, DC, MSc has contributed significant selfless dedication and invaluable expertise leading to the advancement of the specialty of chiropractic radiology and it is hereby proclaimed that he is to be certified as Diplomate in the Specialty of Chiropractic Radiology (Honoris Causa) and to utilize the designation: D.A.C.B.R. (Hon)

Dr. Lawson has contributed significantly to the chiropractic profession in Alberta and across Canada. Some of his professional accomplishments include achievement of a DC degree, Cleveland College of Chiropractic, 1976; in private practice in Calgary; MSc, Medical Education, University of Calgary, 2003; PhD program, University of Calgary, Faculty of Medicine, 2003-2007; Medical Science Graduate Education Scholarship Honorary Member, Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College, 2007.

Few people have contributed more than Dr. Lawson in his service to the chiropractic profession. He has served in several capacities for the Alberta Chiropractic Association, the Calgary Chiropractic Society, the Canadian Chiropractic Association, the Canadian Chiropractic Examining Board and the College of Chiropractors of Alberta. He has also served as a psychometric consultant for the Canadian Chiropractic Examining Board, the College of Chiropractic Sport Sciences, the American Chiropractic Board of Examiners and the American Veterinary Chiropractic Association.

Furthermore,Dr. Lawson has served as a member of a number of professional organizations including the Research Ethics Review Committee, College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta, the Chiropractic Commission on Accreditation, the Council on Chiropractic Education, the Chiropractic Health Care Team, Winter Olympics, 1988, the Universities Coordinating Council Professional Board in Chiropractic and the Alberta Chiropractic Research for Health Committee, ACA.

Dr. Lawson’s most recent research interests have focused principally on medical education and testing. He has published and presented extensively on the topics of psychometric analysis, item response theory, assessment, team learning, cognitive psychology, continuing competency, exam validity, and exam defensibility. He has also published and lectured extensively on the topics of radiation protection, quality assurance, and x-ray technology.

He has mentored several colleagues in their pursuit of medical education degrees including Drs. Sara Smith, Kim Mazar, Lori Darroch and Renee Devries.

Dr. Lawson and his wife Maria are both officially retired and live in Calgary. They remain very active in the profession and are the proud parents of Tyler and Holly (and their respective spouses) and three grandchildren.
