The Advocates’ Society has trained
over 600 lawyers in expert evidence over the last decade – now, this
not-for-profit group is reaching out to the public and providing training for
those who may be called as expert witnesses in their fields. With an
ever-increasing demand for courtroom savvy experts in all areas of litigation,
the National Expert Witness
Academy was born. This is
Canada’s
only three-day certificate program covering law, procedure, written evidence,
and court room skills for experts.

The program will be delivered
annually, each year in a different Canadian city, and brings together novice
and veteran practitioners from all disciplines at a one-to-four teaching ratio
with a highly skilled faculty of lawyers from Canada’s top law firms – such as
PricewaterhouseCoopers and GowlingLaFleurHenderson – as well as leading
professionals from the fields of business, engineering, medicine/health care
and science.

Participants will find themselves courtroom-ready,
benefiting from realistic, practical exercises that will improve skills and
build confidence. Participants will learn: differences between courts and tribunals;
how and when to prepare to testify; roles, duties and conflicts of the
testifying expert; how to introduce yourself and your expertise; how to survive
cross-examination; and, how to write better reports, with hands on workshops
and breakout groups for participants from different professional disciplines.

Attendance is recommended for health
care personnel in general, and especially those who are accident and injury
experts, insurance experts and science and engineering experts.
Individual professionals may choose to attend or  group
practices/businesses may choose to send one or two representatives from their
group.

Enrollment is restricted to 60
people. Mention that you learned of this course through Canadian Chiropractor magazine, and you will be eligible for the early bird registration rate.
