I wish you could watch the profession of chiropractic from my vantage

I wish you could watch the profession of chiropractic from my vantage point. With every passing month, something occurs to bring chiropractic into the radar of other health professionals and the general public in a positive way, strengthening the profession’s position, certainly in Canada, but also on a global scale! The research that is bursting forth through the efforts of DCs in universities and practices across the country is mind-boggling in its quantity, ever-increasing quality and scope. The involvement of chiropractors on the health teams that service athletes at all levels of sport continues to increase awareness of the profession. Furthermore, the inclusion of DCs on health-care teams in hospitals, family health clinics and corporate settings is serving to solidify the role of chiropractic in our health system. Also of great importance is the maturation of communication and unity seen across the profession, as conferences and literature demonstrate the fusion of the profession’s many ideals into a cohesive and effective system.

None of this could be expected to occur overnight, but the fact that it is occurring, globally, at such an impressive clip, lays waste to the myths that call into question whether chiropractic can substantiated, useful or unified. It can, very much, be all three without any one dimension suffering for the growth of the others.

This issue of Canadian Chiropractor is dedicated to the inroads chiropractic has been making in sports medicine. Our lead story is meant to showcase some of these and I thank Drs. Gregory Uchacz, Brian Seaman, André-Marie Gonthier, and the World Federation of Chiropractic for their assistance in bringing it together. Dr. Michael Chivers talks to us about understanding the dynamics and implications for injury of overhead shoulder performance in the sport of baseball. Dr. John Hinwood (a Canadian in Australia) describes his own history in sports, while he inspires us with his call to make miracles happen in all our lives. Drs. Shawn Thistle and John Minardi dedicate their entries, for this issue, to sports-related knee and shoulder injuries. In our web-exclusive stories, Dr. Leif Sigurdson talks to us about his experience with the Simon Fraser University Hockey team, and we welcome Dr. Tracey Teasdale, ND, who presents new research in acupuncture for athletes.
Please remember to visit our website at www.cndoctor.ca for current news, events, industry updates and information. Participate in our blog and polls and never hesitate to contact us if you have story ideas, suggestions or comments. This is your Canadian magazine, dedicated to reflecting the growth of your profession – I take that as seriously as the privilege I have to be involved in chiropractic, both as a patient and through this publication.

Bien à vous
