July 10, Toronto,
Ont. – Dr. Deborah Kopansky-Giles asks chiropractors to join The Bone and Joint
Decade (BJD) in preparing for October 16, 2012, otherwise known as World Spine
Day. DCs are invited to share what they
have planned to help educate patients and the public about spine health.

In her June 2012
report to the World Federation of Chiropractic (WFC), Dr. Deborah Kopansky-Giles writes
that the BJD has invited the profession of chiropractic, through the WFC, to
prepare its multidisciplinary membership and the public by assisting in the
development of a new World Spine Day (WSD) website and a toolkit containing
resource materials.

“The theme will be
related to posture at home, work and play,” writes Dr. Deborah Kopansky-Giles. “The
hope is for the website to be a resource for BJD National Action Networks
(NANs) and other organizations and will include a toolkit with activities,
educational resources and press releases which can be used when planning and
promoting WSD activities in your respective countries and world regions.”

Chiropractors are
invited to share any resource materials they have used in the past for
potential inclusion in the WSD toolkit.
An example of a resource material might be the Straighten Up and Move
program that is endorsed by the World Health Organization (WHO) and includes
exercises to promote spinal health.

As mentioned
previously, DCs can also share any plans they have in their clinics and
communities for WSD.

Activities and
resource materials can be sent to the WSD task force electronically, with links
to your websites.

“Through the
collection of these resources and the generation of new ones,” notes Dr. Deborah Kopansky-Giles, “we hope to help support you in the promotion of World Spine
Day. In the near future our World Spine Day website will be up and running and
populated with these materials.”

Chiropractors who are
interested in sending in toolkit resource materials, or discussing their plans
for WSD 2012, are asked to contact Dr. Jennifer Nash, Special Projects
Coordinator for World Spine Day at
jnash@wfc.org
as soon as possible, and by July 31 at latest.
