September 29, Toronto – On September 27, the OCA held a
powerful and informative Pathways to Practice 2008 at the InterContinental
Toronto Centre.
The theme
of the day centered around encouraging chiropractors to reach out to their
communities through events, and/or education and advocacy initiatives, to
increase the profile of chiropractors as members of the health-care community.

Attended by
over 200, the day consisted of talks on a variety of subjects that affect the
chiropractor in daily practice, a trade show featuring a range of products and
services for the DC, the OCA annual general meeting, and an interactive education
and information session
.

OCA
president, Dr. Thomas Gadsby, talked about the association’s strategies
for  positioning chiropractic within Ontario’s changing
healthcare landscape.  These involve
focusing on;

  • building increased public
clarity and awareness regarding what chiropractors do and how they fit
    into the system,

  • building increased credibility
    and profile for the profession,

  • building more community-based
strategies to encourage greater chiropractor involvement in health care
delivery and advocacy at all levels,

  • building integration in public
and government relations activities, both provincially and at the local
    level.

OCA
executives introduced the association’s new relationship with the GR/PR firm
Fleishman-Hillard.  The partnership will
be geared to increasing chiropractic advocacy efforts through media outreach
campaigns.

The OCA
would like to thank all who sponsored, attended, or were otherwise involved
with Pathways to Practice 2008 and look forward to a busy and productive year
leading up to Pathways to Practice 2009.
