in this issue, we feature a Letter to the Editor sent from a chiropractic patient. When he sent me this letter, the writer acknowledged the magazine is a professional one, i.e., meant to be an information vehicle amongst practitioners and not generally open to patient communiqués.

in this issue, we feature a Letter to the Editor sent from a chiropractic patient. When he sent me this letter, the writer acknowledged the magazine is a professional one, i.e., meant to be an information vehicle amongst practitioners and not generally open to patient communiqués. However, he wanted to express his gratitude for chiropractic, and to the profession, for helping him in his hour of need. Indeed, it is not really our policy to include this type of missive in our publications, but I chose to for two reasons.

First, its purpose and content embodies elements that are fundamental to the success of DCs and of chiropractic, and, hence, worth reviewing. For one, chiropractic works. People under chiropractic care – and there are lots of them – feel and function better. Studies show this. We see it every day in chiropractic clinics around the globe and many of us have personally benefited from chiropractic. Next, people who benefit from chiropractic want to tell the world about it – and testimonials based on personal experience are powerful! Don’t forget to leverage them in your practice. Furthermore, this gentleman received more than adjustments: he obtained prevention education to support his healing journey. Chiropractors are concerned not only with managing a symptom or two, but with restoring and maintaining health and vitality by identifying and addressing the core of each patient’s problems.

The other reason I was drawn to this gentleman’s letter, and his desire to disseminate it amongst chiropractors, has to do with something perhaps a little less tangible, but still integral to chiropractic as a treatment and as a practice. It occurred to me the letter demonstrates that this person’s power, clearly, is fully on! When you read it, you see that he has learned to live at his full potential, striving to push himself to do better over time. And now, he has decided to maximize the power of his testimonial by conveying his truth to those who actually deliver chiropractic to others – that is, to DCs themselves! He knows that by telling you how much he values you, he is renewing your purpose and inspiring you to keep your power on through those days when you feel stuck in a grind, wondering what, exactly, it is you’re doing for people. The result of his desire to connect to you is that your patients will, in turn, receive your refuelled focus and, hence, reap the full benefits of chiropractic as he did. He not only has done this at the local level, but also has asked to reach out to DCs across the nation. This man has made the choice to turn his own experience into a conduit for improvement in other Canadians. As I said above, his power is on! And you did that.

The time has come for me to also thank you for turning my own power on, as my six-year journey with you and your profession now draws to a close. I consider the time I have spent sharing in your stories unparalleled by anything in my own personal or professional history. But, most of all, I am honoured by the trust you have extended to me. If I can ask one thing of you, it would be to remember to trust in each other, and in chiropractic, as well.

Bien à vous,
